Taxes…and more taxes.

Most states have a sales tax. You buy something and you must pay a tax. Notice that it is a sales tax…not a buy tax. Those sneaky politicians did that on purpose. Think about it…they force a business to collect the tax that is included in the price of what you are buying. That makes the business liable for collecting the tax from you as part of the sale. They must keep complicated records and install expensive equipment and software to collect and then send the sales tax to the government. The government even requires the business to pay for a permit to collect the sales tax. Some cities get in on the act by imposing a sales tax in the city. That adds to the complexity for the business so they usually employ or contract for tax “specialists” who make sure all the rules and regulations of the tax code are followed. These specialists also form a lobby to further complicate the tax codes to embed their services into the process even deeper.

Why they call it a sales tax is very simple. If it was a buy tax…a smart business would just send the information to the government on every sale and tell them to collect the buy tax themselves thus avoiding the cost and time involved.

Got to give credit to the legal advisers the politicians used in creating the sales tax scheme.

States also figured they would tax hunting and fishing by requiring you to buy a license. Here is where their scheme failed. The businesses were not required (yet) by law to sell those licenses. The only alternative was to provide an incentive for the business to sell the licenses by giving them part of the license fee…which they do. If the sales tax was a buy tax, they’d have to share the proceeds with any business that would collect the buy tax.

The internet has thrown a monkey wrench into their tax scheme. The states are slowly but surely getting online sales to include the tax. Amazon was the first to fall as states cited the presence of any physical entity in the state that belonged to Amazon. Amazon quickly folded BUT about the same time they received a subsidy from the US Post office for delivery of their packages to their customers…but that’s another whole mess. You could search that and wonder.

(Yes…I used the comic sans font)

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago and our nation was the most prosperous in the world, had no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world and Mom could stay home to raise the kids. And; they tell me they’re “giving” a 1% increase in social security…which is money they took…taxed it…and then hoped we’d die before getting it back. That 1% won’t cover the cost of a case of Two Buck Chuck. BTW: my state Minnesota (at 10.24%) is in the top five of highest taxing states. Delaware (where a lot of politicians live) is the lowest…hmmmm.

The most egregious of taxes, of course, is the income tax. The IRS Tax Code table of contents…the table of contents…has more pages than the Bible. We pay that tax April 15 each year. Elections of politicians are held in November…as far removed from April 15 as possible…another hmmmm.

Wonder what would happen if all elections were held April 16?

Politicians and Reality

Reality is being comfortable with a daily routine that keeps you happy and productive. The largest part of your life is family and work…or school to get smart enough to work. You smile and wave at neighbors. You provide a satisfying one finger salute to the idiot that cuts you off in traffic. You can buy something you want and still pay for everything you need. The dog wags his tail when he sees you and the cat is asleep on your lap as you boot up your computer…

…and discover a whole different world according to politicians who use journalism as a bullhorn to scream the perils of impending doom…because they are not in a position of power or are about to lose their position of power. Their tenuous grasp on that power is a life-threatening situation that can be mitigated only by donations to their campaigns; donations they share with the journalists that charge them to continue screaming in that bullhorn about the doom and gloom just ahead of you.

I did not know that President Trump is responsible for hurricanes.
The Democrats want my money to impeach him.

I did not know that the Democrats have been paying Russian spies to destroy our way of life.
The Republicans want my money to build a wall around California.

I did not know that the Supreme Court is about to kill all child bearing women. The Democrats want my money to prevent new members from being appointed to the court.

As vast…and half-vast as these problems seem to be, I can’t really justify selling everything I own to meet the enormous amount of money needed according to all of the politicians. However, I have come up with a plan that I will make available to both Democrats and Republicans and figure the smartest political party will immediately benefit from this plan and obtain the funding they need to ameliorate these numerous horrific problems that can only be solved with huge amounts of money.

Here’s the plan:

There’s this Nigerian prince I heard about on the internet…

Liberals Taxing The Rich

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten
comes to $100.
If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something
like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that’s what they decided to do.

The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy
with the arrangement, until on day, the owner threw them a curve.
“Since you are all such good customers,” he said, “I’m going to reduce
the cost of your daily beer by $20.”Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the
first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But
what about the other six men – the paying customers? How could they divide
the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his ‘fair share?’
They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted
that from everybody’s share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would
each end up being paid to drink his beer.
So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each
man’s bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the
amounts each should pay.

And so:

The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).
The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued
to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to
compare their savings.

“I only got a dollar out of the $20,”declared the sixth man. He pointed
to the tenth man,” but he got $10!”

“Yeah, that’s right,” exclaimed the fifth man. “I only saved a dollar,
too. It’s unfair that he got ten times more than I!”

“That’s true!!” shouted the seventh man. “Why should he get $10 back
when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!”

“Wait a minute,” yelled the first four men in unison. “We didn’t get
anything at all. The system exploits the poor!”

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn’t show up for drinks, so the nine
sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the
bill, they discovered something important. They didn’t have enough money between
all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our
tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most
benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being
wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might
start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

History of The Middle Finger

Before the Battle of Agincourt in 1415, the French, anticipating victory over the English, proposed to cut off the middle finger of all captured English soldiers.

Without the middle finger it would be impossible to draw the renowned English longbow and therefore they would be incapable of fighting in the future. This famous weapon was made of the native English Yew tree, and the act of drawing the longbow was known as “plucking the yew” (or “pluck yew”).

Much to the bewilderment of the French, the English won a major upset and began mocking the French by waving their middle fingers at the defeated French, saying, See, we can still pluck yew! “PLUCK YEW!”

Since ‘pluck yew’ is rather difficult to say, the difficult consonant cluster at the beginning has gradually hanged to a labiodental’s fricative ‘F’, and thus the words often used in conjunction with the one-finger-salute!

It is also because of the pheasant feathers on the arrows used with the longbow that the symbolic gesture is known as “giving the bird.”

IT IS STILL AN APPROPRIATE SALUTE TO THE DEMOCRATS TODAY!

Farcebook?

Farcebook was created by a group of friends in college to get revenge on the smart women who would not sleep with them. When the algorithms they developed started to generate money rather than sex, one of the friends figured out a way to grab control of the intellectual rights and cut his friends out of the business created from their original idea.

Does the term “unfriend” ring a bell?

Now, people want me to register and create a Farcebook page. They claim I can limit the information to just them. To do so, I would have to provide Facebook with information beginning with my private email address. My kids and a select few people already have my email address…and my address…and my telephone number.

Using their logic for the Farcebook (sic) account, I should then provide my telephone number to the largest telemarketing firms and my address to the largest direct mail companies.

My wife had a registered Farcebook account. I had also registered her computer for protection by Internet Security software. It was a constant battle between the two to keep her computer running. I had to use a full system scan and a  Power Eraser program to find and identify two major viruses and three hacks into the registry on her computer that were traced back to…guess where.

Now, before anybody claims I have not kept up with the times, may I remind them my first computer was purchased and mastered back in 1975…when some of my “tech savvy” kids were still pooping and throwing up on me. I have also been hired as a business consultant by leading edge high tech startups…one of them was acquired by a major IT company for several millions of dollars. By leading edge I mean temporally accessed spectral multiplexing…give me an hour and a glass of wine I will explain how this technology is about ten years down the road and will make most of your current gadgets obsolete.

If you’ve read this far, I want to thank you since the “modern” culture of Twitter limits conversations to 140 characters. Personally, I think some of those conversations should be limited to their IQ.

You also have to wonder where technology is going when the software on a computer costs more than the computer. It’s cheaper to buy a new computer than buy the new software for your old computer.

Windows 10…don’t you wonder what happened to Windows 9? Microsoft is giving it away about the same time they are backing away from smart phones. Maybe they figured out how many dumb people have them.

And don’t get me started on texting.

Figure this out: I should text someone instead of calling them.

Here’s a text for you:

Call me when you have a few minutes so I don’t ruin my thumbs
and create a premature case of arthritis.

My kids know I have a hearing problem thanks to Vietnam. The VA has provided hearing aids that use some of the new technology that enables me to use my cellphone. My kids send me an email to give me time to hook up the gadget to the cell phone.

Don’t get me wrong. I love new technology and even more as it destroys the monopoly the main stream media (MSM) has had for far too long. They used to dump stories at odds with their ideology on Friday so it would get lost over the weekend. Most people interested in what’s going on in the world use the weekend and the internet to catch up on “news” and have even invented a new Tweet to express their outrage at some of the news the MSM tries to hide:

Monday…Tuesday…WTF…Saturday…Sunday

If you Google me…will I giggle?

If you do sign up for Google or Facebook…try using a fictitious middle initial (like X) and see how much spam uses that same initial when contacting you.

Whatfinger News was founded by military people and 100% unapologetic for being patriotic. That doesn’t mean they don’t show opposing views, sites and papers. They label them on the homepage in sections as right wing or left wing, unlike other sites that might trick you into clicking into sites that you would never want to visit. This news site is like The Drudge Report on steroids. The big difference is the huge amount of information available and updated more often than Drudge.

cCleaner (piriform.com) is a free PC diagnostic tool I have been using for years and recommend highly. They have a professional grade version that is worth the money after you are familiar with the free version. The program flushes out junk while fixing errors in your registry. You don’t have to understand what it does…but you’ll be happy that it does do it. First time you clean your registry with cCleaner, you’ll be amazed at the number if errors and missing links you’ll find.

Final tip: turn it off then on…and make sure it’s plugged in.

Why Politicians Love Gun Laws

Using politician logic, guns cause murder. To test this hypothesis, I placed my shotgun on the back deck and kept watch. After three days, the shotgun had not moved, and I could not find any dead bodies anywhere near. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, perhaps my experiment did not factor in the many laws passed by politicians to prevent murder by gun. Since my shotgun was not a registered weapon, I researched the process in Minnesota to create a law-abiding gun that would be considered an official murderous weapon.

Here’s what I found:

I did the math and came up with a total of $256.00 so my shotgun would become an official murderous weapon. But then it occurred to me that I was the one going through the bureaucratic process while my shotgun was still on the deck doing God knows what. The process involved people, not guns. The process was designed to control people and not guns.

My next thought process discovered that there are now…at this very moment… 265,728 people who have been successfully processed for a concealed carry permit at a cost of $256.00 each bringing the total collected during the process to over $68,000,000.00…just in Minnesota. This tax scam works in every state, so it’s probably the reason there will be no reciprocity law passed.

Suddenly the politicians began shouting “squirrel”!

Now I’ve hunted and eaten squirrels in my younger days and was not distracted. I stayed focused on my findings that gun laws proposed by politicians are designed to control people with a side benefit of generating millions in new taxes they could spend.

Their shouts of “squirrel”! became louder.

I bought that Winchester Model 101 shotgun for about $150.00 back in the 1960’s. It’s worth more than a thousand dollars today so I brought it in from the deck in case politicians figured that they could tax the gain on its value.

Maybe we should move election day to the end of April just after we’ve paid our taxes.

Couldn’t hurt.
